What you say and how you say it make a difference. Take my email last week with a non-operational hyperlink in it. I’m seeking donations for my ride against cancer and many of you reached out to tell me that the link went nowhere. I think I’ve fixed that and will include the correct page below.
The data released over the last 10 days shows that inflation is moderating, but still over the Fed’s 2.0% objective. The bureau of Labor Statistics says that fewer employees are hiring, wages are attenuating, and GDP indicates that the economy as a whole is contracting. In his prepared statement on Wednesday, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said that the Committee has carefully assessed the incoming data and continually evolving outlook, and has decided to leave their rates unchanged for now.
During the press conference after the reading of the statement, Mr. Powell used the term “waiting” a total of 22 times. In the fight against inflation, the Fed is taking the passive approach and is being criticized for the lack of action. Were they to be more proactive and lower interest rates sooner, they’d undoubtedly be labeled careless, premature, and political sellouts. Battling an epidemic is hard work.
