So I am driving home yesterday and see that there are all of these orange clusters on the hillside. I guess it is that time of year again: the air cools, daylight wanes, kids complain about homework, stock prices fall, and interest rates drop. Some of these we look forward to and some we do not of course. And while it’s not always the case that the equity markets decline every fall, it has occurred every year since 2011 to some degree or another. What that means for me is that I can afford Christmas for my family since lower prices on the S&P 500 generally lead to lower interest rates and consequently more loans coming in the door. So you will pardon my apparent callousness if I get a little excited when stocks tank. Who needs a robust 401(k) anyway? Retirement is for old people.
